The White House is set to announce later Thursday that another nation will establish diplomatic relations with Israel under the Abraham Accords, according to Steve Witkoff, U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy.
Speaking at the America Business Forum in Miami, Witkoff stated,
"I'm flying back to Washington tonight because we're going to announce, tonight, another country coming into the Abraham Accords."
During President Trump's first term, the Abraham Accords led to several Arab countries normalizing ties with Israel in 2020. This agreement significantly altered the regional diplomatic landscape.
The accords have intensified the Palestinians' isolation by breaking a longstanding Arab consensus that recognition of Israel should be contingent on concessions in peace negotiations. Palestinians, enduring years of Israeli occupation, view this shift as a betrayal by Arab states that had pledged to support Palestinian independence and advocate for Israeli withdrawal from territories seized after 1948.
The Abraham Accords continue to reshape Middle Eastern diplomacy by expanding Israel's formal relationships, while deepening challenges faced by the Palestinians due to shifting Arab policies.
