The Longridge Soap Box Derby, a popular community event in Ribble Valley, may not take place in 2026 due to a lack of volunteers.
According to Emma Baines, one of the main organisers, the event needs more support to continue running. Over the past four years, the Soap Box Derby has become a favourite on the Longridge events calendar, attracting large crowds and raising thousands for charity.
The Soap Box Derby stands a chance of not running at all in 2026. We are losing people who cannot commit the time they used to and the reality is we cannot do it on our own.
The current committee is facing a shortage of volunteers as some members are moving away from Longridge due to work or retirement. The organisers are calling for more people to step forward and volunteer to ensure the event can take place next year.
