Growers are being urged to test their spring field bean seeds if they plan to use them as home-saved seed for the 2026 season.
According to Mike Thornton, ProCam's head of crop production, the cost of testing is minimal, but the potential benefits of avoiding seed with health issues or poor germination can be significant.
“With a relatively small area of spring beans grown for seed multiplication, it’s not unusual for growers to plant home-saved seed,” says Mike. “However, don’t assume the seed will be okay.
